  • African American Perspectives - "The Daniel A. P. Murray Pamphlet Collection presents a panoramic and eclectic review of African-American history and culture, spanning almost one hundred years from the early nineteenth through the early twentieth centuries, with the bulk of the material published between 1875 and 1900."

  • Life of the Common Foot Soldier- A collection of stories of what it was like for the common soldiers during the American Civil War as they experienced life in the camps and on the battlefield.

  • Life of a Confederate Soldier - A site with selected excerpts from a narrative on the war by a common Confederate soldier.

  • Life of a Union Soldier - This site contains selected excerpts from the candid account on the war presented by a common Federal soldier.

  • Civil War Photographs Collection - This site "contains 1,118 photographs. Most of the images were made under the supervision of Mathew B. Brady, and include scenes of military personnel, preparations for battle, and battle after-effects. The collection also includes portraits of both Confederate and Union officers, and a selection of enlisted men."

  • The U. S. Civil War Center - A site established by Louisiana State University that contains an extensive list of Web Pages on the U. S. Civil War.

  • Civil War in Pennsylvania and Virginia -"The Valley of the Shadow Project takes two communities, one Northern and one Southern, through the experience of the American Civil War."

  • Civil War Home Page - "The American Civil War Homepage gathers together in one place hypertext links to the most useful identified electronic files about the American Civil War (1861-1865). The page opens a gateway to the Internet's multi-formatted resources about what is arguably the seminal event in American history."

  • California as I Saw It:" First-Person Narratives of California's Early Years, 1849-1900 - This site "consists of the full texts and illustrations of 190 works documenting the formative era of California's history through eyewitness accounts. The collection covers the dramatic between the Gold Rush and the turn of the twentieth century. It captures the pioneer experience; encounters between Anglo-Americans and the diverse peoples who had preceded them; the transformation of the land by mining, ranching, agriculture, and urban development; the often-turbulent growth of communities and cities; and California's emergence as both a state and a
    place of uniquely American dreams."
