Title IX

Our Commitment

The Simi Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) affirms its commitment to equality of opportunity for all individuals. Simi Valley High School is committed to promoting athletic opportunities for all students and has continually expanded its female sports offerings. Most recently adding Lacrosse in 2012 and Freshman Girls Basketball in 2015. In the 2016-2017 School Year Simi Valley Unified School District has added a stipend for a Girls Varsity Wrestling Coach.

Athletic Upgrades

  • Simi Valley High School is committed to upgrading facilities. In the 2014- 2015 school year our tennis courts were resurfaced for both boys and Girls tennis. New windscreens were added as well.


  • The gym floors were redone and polished in the Summer 2016 and in the process for Summer 2017
  • 2015-2016 school year will lead to upgrades in our stadium. A new stadium scoreboard will be installed September 2015.
  • In the summer of 2016 our athletic stadium (used for Football, Soccer, Lacrosse, Track and Field and our Physical Education Programs) was resurfaced with new turf and track. 


Athlete Bill of Rights- California Education Code Section 217

Following us a list of student-athlete rights, which are based on the relevant provisions of the federal regulations implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. You should know your rights!

  1. You have the right to fair and equitable treatment and you shall not be discriminated against based on your sex.
  2. You have the right to be provided with an equitable opportunity to participate in all academic and extracurricular activities, including athletics.
  3. You have the right to inquire of the athletic director of your school as to the athletic opportunities offered by the school.
  4. You have the right to apply for athletic scholarships.
  5. You have the right to receive equitable treatment and benefits in the provision of all of the following:
    • Equipment and supplies.
    • Scheduling of games and practices.
    • Transportation and daily allowances.
    • Access to tutoring.
    • Coaching.
    • Locker rooms.
    • Practice and competitive facilities.
    • Medical and training facilities and services.
    • Publicity
  7. You have the right to have access to a gender equity coordinator to answer questions regarding gender equity laws.
  8. You have the right to contact the State Department of Education and the California Interscholastic Federation to access information on gender equity laws.
  9. You have the right to file a confidential discrimination complaint with the United States Office of Civil Rights or the State Department of Education if you believe you have been discriminated against or if you believe you have received unequal treatment on the basis of your sex.
  10. You have the right to pursue civil remedies if you have been discriminated against.
  11. You have the right to be protected against retaliation if you file a discrimination complaint.

The same rights apply to physical education. Boys and girls have the right to equitable treatment, equitable locker room and activity facilities and the same process with regard to their right to file a complaint and receive an answer within 60 days.

Your Title IX Advocate

Every school district that receives federal funding is required to designate and/or adequately train at least one employee to coordinate the recipient’s Title IX responsibilities. Title IX regulations also require the name and contact information of each Title IX Coordinator be made public by the educational institution. Any complaint alleging noncompliance with Title IX should be directed to: Hani Youssef Every complaint is investigated and you will receive a written response on how SVUSD will respond to your concerns within 60 days. If you don’t agree with that response, you can appeal to the California Department of Education.
